Bioluminescent Waves Of Southern California!
Переглядів 1628 місяців тому
There is a special type of plankton called "Dinoflagellates" that luminesce when disturbed. Apparently, they do this as a defense mechanism, so as not to be eaten, they glow a eerie blue green. On rare occasions, when there are enough of them in the water, they can cause the waves to luminesce as they crash. For the last week in Southern California at various times, and in various places, there...

T-128 Air Raid Siren, 4K HDR Stereo
Переглядів 356Рік тому
Air raid sirens are mostly a thing of the past in California. During WWII, fearing an attack from the Japanese, California built a network of air raid sirens protecting coastal cities. When WWII ended, the system found new life in the cold war, and was maintained until ~1990. Most cities abandoned their civil defense sirens, but Huntington Beach still uses them. The sirens act as an early warni...

Come with me as I explore the rusting remains of an interesting piece of cold war history! Before ICBM’s the only way to deliver nuclear weapons to your enemy was to fly them there via bomber. This radar site, and around 15 others, protected Los Angeles with interceptor missiles that were designed to take out the Russian bombers before they reached their target. This was a SAM (surface To Air M...

Originally a rock quarry in the early 20th century, the Bronson Caves found a new use as a movie filming location where literally hundreds of films, TV Series, and music videos were filmed. Come with me as I visit Salvation Mountain, a crumbling, but beautiful tribute to the lord built by the late Leonard Knight. Mr. Knight created a large hot air balloon balloon over a 15 year period emblazoned with "God Is Love". It was too heavy, and rotted out in a snowstorm in Nebraska. After this failure, undeterred, he came to California, and started his next project, a large mountain. The ...

I visited Bombay Beach at The Salton Sea in 2017, it was a mess. There were many dead fish along what looked like a white sandy beach, that wasn't sand at all, but fish bones. The smell was horrendous, and apart from an environmental disaster that is echoed in almost every article, there was little to see. Now it's completely different. No dead fish, no smell, instead, I found a clean, carefull...

I lived on a mineral spring area in Reno. The hot water would heat up our rooms. Every room had pipes going through them filled with the hot mineral water. Oh, it was so good for our hair and skin too! We cleaned the walls and tubs with bleach water. It's the only thing that works. As with every hot springs, you have to drain and clean the pools OFTEN

There is a funny story here, Curtis Springer, the original proprietor of this place, billed his baths as "Hot Springs" when in fact, he had a bank of hot water heaters near the bath house. The water was from a spring though. People thought they were at a actual hot spring.

Can you please when you have a moment share the website of where you get how many filters in it what price because I have 4 cats and a 7 lb dog so I will be going through a lot of filters I was given this used and I cleaned it out really really well even using a little bit of bleach, but all the bleach off is all gone there was a lot a lot a lot of algae so I had no choice because you never know if that stuff was mildew or algae. It was black so now it’s safe and I bought a new pump so I need some new filters.

At the end of 8th grade I ran away from home and stay at Crystal Lake for two + months camping and hiding out from the Rangers (for not paying camp fees). LIVE at the amphitheater starring "SMOKEYYYYYYYY the Bear" July 4th weekend 1970!!!! It was amazing time to an 8th grader. I had two friends who were older and 1 of which drove, so they would hang out on weekends bringing up food. When we all were together we stayed in an Oasis tent by Coleman in the campground. The rest of the time I would just sleep under the stars hiding. I'll never forget that model tent, as it was made with a "NEW" material and was 8 x 10 and boy it was the best (at the time). Fishing was okay most of the time, hot during the afternoons unless it rained. I saw a couple of black bears and a cougar... the cougar scared the crap out of the three of us. As I recall, higher up the mountain was a Boy Scout camp called Deer Flats... at least that how I remember it and it was there where I had establish my base camp and we saw the cougar!!! YIKES!!! Because it was an "Organized Camp," unless a group was there, the place was empty and AWESOME. The road going up was gated closed unless the place was being used. The Rangers only went up to help the organized groups. Wow... Life was simpler, your mind wasn't bombarded with nonsense and BS.... your imagination was your biggest toy box, and each day seemed Tom Sawyer lazy. Oh to be a kid again BACK THEN!!!

What's scary is that a computer close to this vintage was being used for air traffic control operations well into the 90s. I still remember what the reporter said ,"Just take a look at this computer. It has less memory than a laptop! In fact it is so old they can't purchase spare parts for it." HOPEFULLY, *this* is no longer the case but how much of our critical infrastructure is being held together with decades old computer equipment that it's near impossible to find documentation for, let alone spare parts or people who really know the system? :-(
